The seventeenth century old city, built for the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, is lauded as being the most prosperous city of fabled riches, of elegant mansions and gardens. Our exploration of Old Delhi (the walled city) begins from Delhi Gate, which is one of the five existing gates out of fourteen gates built by the Mughal rulers in the 17th Century.
This tour rides us into the ruins of the once glorious city comprising the impressive congregational mosque, Jama Masjid and an imposing citadel, the Red Fort (Lal Qila), Chandni Chowk (the moon-lit bazaar) undoubtedly the busiest market of India today. Up next is a local spicy tea and largest spice market of India. We will not only dwell into the cultural landscape of this heritage city but also explore the off beaten paths.
Lastly, as they say, ” It’s a crime to leave Old Delhi without exploring your taste buds”, our tour is incomplete without a food stop at one of the oldest traditional food joint for a breakfast.
